The Strada della Forra, described by Winston Churchill as 'the eighth wonder of the world', is undoubtedly the most beautiful panoramic road on Lake Garda. For its breathtaking view and the bends winding up the mountain with the lake always in the background, it was chosen as the setting for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
The Strada della Forra crosses the gorge carved out by the Brasa stream. It was designed by Arturo Cozzaglio from Tremosine, an incredible work for the era. Construction began in 1908 and lasted over 4 years. On 18 May 1913, the inauguration day, the correspondent of the Frankfurter Zeitung christened it 'the most beautiful road in the world'.
The road is 5.8 km long with an elevation difference of about 200 metres. It starts from the Gardesana and reaches the hamlet of Pieve in the Municipality of Tremosine sul Garda. Even today it is considered one of the most spectacular routes in Italy, evocative even in the evening thanks to the scenic lighting at the narrowest point of the gorge.
The Strada della Forra was the protagonist in the opening scene of 'Quantum of Solace' with Daniel Craig. The breathtaking chase between James Bond's Aston Martin DBS and a Ford GT40, amid bullets, explosions and vehicles plunging down rocky walls. In 2008, 'The International' by Columbia Pictures was also filmed here.
Along the Strada della Forra, TV adverts were filmed for BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari and Seat (with Loris Capirossi). The road was the location for the Campagnolo campaign and music videos by Alessandra Amoroso ('Comunque Andare') and Frah Quintale ('Due Ali').
