Torbole sul Garda and Nago are world-renowned as the mecca of windsurfing. The unique geography of the northern Lake Garda generates two thermal winds that alternate almost on schedule every day, creating conditions that are nowhere else in Europe as reliable and consistent.

The wind of Torbole

The Pelèr, a cool northerly wind, blows in the early morning hours and offers ideal conditions for experienced riders looking for speed and freestyle. From late morning the Ora takes over — a warm thermal southerly that turns the water into a chop of waves and can reach speeds of up to 22 knots. This regularity makes Torbole one of the most dependable windsurfing spots in the world.

Perfect for all levels

Whether you are a beginner or a world-class athlete, Torbole has something for everyone. The wide shore area with a gentle entry and consistent wind without strong currents is ideal for first steps on the board. Advanced riders find ample space on the open lake for demanding manoeuvres, jumps and freestyle tricks. Numerous certified schools offer private and group lessons for all ages and experience levels.

Schools and equipment rental

In the town and along the shore, many windsurfing schools and rental stations have set up. They offer modern equipment, certified instructors and structured course programmes from beginner to pro session. Those who do not bring their own gear will find everything needed on-site — boards, sails, wetsuits and accessories.

World-class regattas

Torbole is not just a popular leisure spot but also the venue for national and international competitions. The Torbole Windsurfing Classic and other prestigious events attract thousands of athletes and spectators from around the world every year. The atmosphere surrounding the regattas is unforgettable — sport, community and the unique backdrop of Lake Garda combine into a spectacular experience.

Around the spot

Away from the water, Torbole has plenty to offer. The historic centre invites you to stroll through charming lanes, restaurants and small bars. After a long session on the water, an aperitif with a view of the lake is highly recommended, followed by fresh pasta or lake fish in one of the local restaurants. The neighbouring town of Riva del Garda is only a few kilometres away and offers further shopping and leisure options.

Getting there from Campione

Torbole sul Garda is only about 15 km north of Campione del Garda. By car, the drive along the Gardesana takes about 20 minutes. Alternatively, the Navigarda ferry offers a scenic connection directly across the lake — a perfect combination of journey and experience.
