Sailing on Lake Garda – Europe's Most Famous Sailing Destination Right on Your Doorstep
Any sailor in Europe has heard of Campione del Garda. This small village on the western shore has developed over decades into one of Italy's most prestigious sailing centres. The Univela Campione is the main sailing centre here — the hub for all courses, regattas and post-sailing aperitivos.
Campione del Garda – the Heart of Lake Garda Sailing
In the morning, usually between 8 and 12, the Pelèr blows — a fresh northerly wind at 20–25 knots providing perfect regatta conditions. In the afternoon the Ora takes over, a lighter, steadier thermal southerly. Together, these two winds create a sailing climate almost impossible to find on natural lakes with such regularity.
Sailing Courses for All Ages and Levels
- Children's courses (6–14 years): On the Optimist — the classic single-handed dinghy, playful and safe
- Adult beginners: Trimming, tacking, gybing, reading the wind with FIV-certified instructors
- Advanced and regatta training: Tactics, boat setup, manoeuvres under race conditions
- Boat rental: Various types for experienced sailors, by the day or week
The Sailing Season on Lake Garda
The official season runs from April to October. For demanding sailors, May and June are ideal — uncrowded water, strong Pelèr. September and October offer golden, calm days — perfect for relaxed cruising.
