Mountain Biking on Lake Garda – International MTB Destination with Trails for Every Level
For the mountain biking world, Lake Garda is a must-visit. A dense network of trails for all skill levels — from relaxed lakeshore routes to technical singletrails with an alpine character — all set in a landscape that makes every kilometre in the saddle unforgettable. Campione del Garda sits at the centre of it all, with trails starting literally at the front door.
The Best MTB Routes from Campione del Garda
Sentiero del Ponale (approx. 10 km, intermediate): The most famous trail on the western shore, following a 19th-century military road cut into the rock. Windows open regularly through the cliff face onto the turquoise lake below — suitable even for beginners with some experience.
Trail 601 – Monte Tremalzo (experts): Technical singletrail, steep sections, tight switchbacks, rough ground — demands full concentration. Reward: a summit panorama that more than justifies the effort, and a descent with legendary status on the Lake Garda MTB scene. Recommended only for experienced riders, ideally with a local guide.
Giro della Valvestino (40 km, 1,200 m elevation): 40 kilometres, 1,200 metres of climbing, varied terrain. The ultimate full day's biking from Campione — bring plenty of water and food as provisions are scarce on route.
Lakeshore cycle path: The flat path along the lake — perfect for recovery days between harder rides, or for families.
