A Canyon Road Unlike Anything Else in Europe
The Strada della Forra is one of the most dramatic roads in Italy. Carved through a narrow gorge by the Brasa torrent, the road winds along cliff walls that rise up to 300 metres overhead. It forms part of the SP38 provincial road connecting Gargnano with Tignale and Gardola, covering approximately 9 kilometres and climbing 570 metres in elevation.
Churchill, James Bond, and a World Wonder
Winston Churchill reportedly described it as the "eighth wonder of the world." The road gained global fame as a filming location for the 2008 James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" — the dramatic opening car chase was shot here.
How to Drive (or Cycle) the Strada della Forra
The road begins just outside Gargnano and climbs towards Tignale and Gardola. It can be driven in a standard car, though patience is required on the narrow sections.
Walking the Canyon on Foot
The gorge floor — roughly 250 metres — can be explored on foot with a guided visit. A suspended panoramic terrace at the top offers a sweeping view over Lake Garda.
Getting There from Campione del Garda
The Strada della Forra is just 15 minutes by car from Campione del Garda. Early morning or early evening visits are recommended in summer.
